Initial Idea

Initial idea of my Health care facility is for the people who have 'mental retardation' problem.

There are three criteria before a person is considered to have a mental retardation:
* IQ below 70,
* Significant limitations in two or more areas of adaptive behavior
(i.e. communication, self-help skills, interpersonal skills, and more)
* Evidence that the limitations became apparent before the age of 18.

By most definitions mental retardation is more accurately considered a disability rather than a disease. Currently, there is no "cure" for an established disability, though with appropriate support and teaching, most individuals can learn to do many things.

People with this disabilities learn throughout their lives and can obtain many new skills even late in life with the help of their families, caregivers, clinicians and the people who coordinate the efforts of all of these people.

The purpose of this health care facility would be, by specific programs (include architecture) that people with developmental disabilities can take part in wherein they learn basic life skills. It would be more like child care centre looking rather than hospital.

Hi Dennis,
There was a documentary on the ABC last night called 'The Music In Me' about the Merry Makers - a group of intellectually and physically disabled people who gather once a week to sing, dance and socialise. The group also consists of a number of volunteers, and together they stage plays and musicals to showcase their work. It seems like a fantastic organisation and possibly an interesting starting point for your research into intellectual disabilities.
Two websites that might help are http://www.merrymakers.com.au and http://www.themusicinme.com.au/
